Beautiful New Nature and Wildlife Shirts for 2010
Gorgeous shirts with nature and wildlife themes have always been a cornerstone of The Mountain's catalog of quality cotton shirts. 2010 has proven a banner year for innovative and creative new art in the natural realm. |
We count sixty new Nature and Wildlife shirts this year, but admit that there is room for interpretation. The chimerical nature of several designs and their obvious affinity for the fantasy world, inspired us to create a brand new Fantastical Nature category. |
Given the deep respect for the natural world by Native American and Celtic traditions, many of the new Mountain wildlife shirts honor those themes as well. You can satisfy your interest in those intersections in the Native American Nature, and Celtic Nature pages. |
In addition to new art by longtime favorite artists such as Christian Riese Lassen and Vincent Hie, and from Jerry LoFaro who made his Mountain debut last year, they have found some striking new talent: |
Clifford Bonamie paints a beautiful white tiger with mesmerizing green eyes and an African wildlife collage. |
Carol Cavalaris debuts with fifteen(!) wildlife images covering everything from Great Apes and Big Cats to Wolves and Owls. Diversity. |
Deborah Crane-Foote combines realistic paintings of a lion and birds of pray with traditional celtic knotwork and symbols. You can see details of the art on our Celtic Nature 2010 page. |
Sherry Vintson paints two dolphin shirts and a manatee shirt that have a classic Mountain look to them. |

African Wildlife - A wildlife collage shirt and a couple of creative ape shirts are the top stories here. Punky! is expected to become a cult classic amongst very diverse audiences. |
North American Wildlife - This is where The Mountain's first-ever coyote shirt is hanging out (it is about time, since they seem to be hanging out throughout most every state including our corner of New Hampshire). |
Big Cats - Beautiful lion and tiger shirts as always, plus a Leopard, and a collage that includes a Lynx. There are a couple of unusual artistic takes on the Great Cats. |
Birds - Three Owl Moon gets our vote for nature shirt of the year, but they have rainforest company in addition to their expected kindred birds-of-prey eagles and hawks. Given The Mountain's respect for cultural traditions, they also have ties to the the Celtic and Native American nature images. |
Horses - Four new horse shirts, each expressing its own version of freedom, from a new angle of The Mountain's patriotic series, to a Native American shield., a Spanish horse (which may be too nuanced for us to understand, despite being raised with horses), and a good-old-fashioned horse art shirt in Stampede. |
Oceans - Playful (apprently even partying) dolphins, of course, plus a beautiful baby sea turtle shirt, a mother and child manatee, and the business end of a shark. |
Reptiles & Amphibians - Eight new designs, arranged neatly in pairs: Dinosaurs(!), Frogs, Gators, and Geckoes. We have long struggled on the traumatic issue of where to place dinosaurs, and have finally settled on the Nature - Reptiles and the Fantastic Nature categories. The latter is a light fantasy subcategory, so perhaps we have more nuancing to do. |
Wolves - The Mountain has always been big on wolf shirts, and ever since the cult hit Three Wolf Moon last year, they have been trown into lupine overdrive. |
Other Nature Themes - From a tornado shredding the very fabric of the shirt, to a peace tree, to fantasy mushrooms with faces and personalities. Strange bedfellows, indeed! |
